JUSTIN BONSIGNORE COMES UP ONE SPOT SHORT AT STAFFORD

STAFFORD, Conn. -- Justin Bonsignore came up just one spot short on Friday, August 6, in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour’s return to Stafford Motor Speedway. Driving the No. 51 Kenneth Massa Motorsports machine, Bonsignore entered the race with no wins in 39 career starts at the Connecticut half-mile, and left with none in 40 starts.

However, Bonsignore’s second-place finish in the GAF Roofing 150 was enough for the Holtsville, New York, native to extend his points lead on the Whelen Modified Tour circuit with five races left in the season.

Bonsignore struggled in the first half of the race, but the pit crew and crew chief Ryan Stone went to work during a late pit stop, gaining Bonsignore a few spots and giving him a shot at the win. Bonsignore would lead laps late, but NASCAR Cup Series driver Ryan Preece, who had one more fresh tire on the car with a different pit strategy, was able to slide around and score the win.

“Ryan had the best car here all day, we struggled at the beginning, got the caution we needed and came in and got two rear tires and our car was really good during the last run,” Bonsginore said. “I would have loved a new ride-front tire there, but all in all, it was a really good day for us. I can’t thank my whole team enough. We are onto Beech Ridge.”

Justin Bonsignore will return to the track on Saturday, August 14 at Monadnock Speedway with the Tri Track Open Modified Series. The next NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour race on the schedule is Saturday, August 21 at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Maine.
