JUSTIN BONSIGNORE LOOKS TO GET TO TRI TRACK VICTORY LANE WITH $10,000 CHECK AT SEEKONK SPEEDWAY6/27/2021 By Souza Media/Kyle Souza
HOLTSVILLE, N.Y. -- Justin Bonsignore will look to park in Tri Track Open Modified Series Victory Lane for the first time in his career on Wednesday, June 30, when the series returns to Massachusetts and Seekonk Speedway’s third-mile oval. Driving the No. 00 Modified for Jimmy Paige Racing, Bonsignore will compete in the Speed51 Modified Madness, a 100-lap race worth $10,000 to the winner as part of the annual Open Wheel Wednesday. In Bonsignore’s first two efforts driving for Paige this season, he finished fourth in the opener at Monadnock Speedway on May 1 -- but failed to finish the second race at Star Speedway on May 22, due to an overheating issue. The two-time NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion is excited to return to Seekonk’s third-mile and chase the big check. “I always seem to run well at Seekonk in the cars I have driven down there in the past,” Bonsignore said. “I love the facility and the track, and I’m excited to go back there after not going there at all last year. Jimmy Paige, Steve Lemay (crew chief), and the entire team have been working hard and we’ve been running well. We were a top-three car at Star, with just an issue we couldn’t control. We’re looking forward to working together again and continuing to build our relationship. We want to get that bad race behind us and try and have a good run at Seekonk and contend for the big $10,000 check.” Practice for Tri Track teams will be one-hour, lasting from 3:45-4:45 p.m., while qualifying heat races will begin at 6:30 p.m., kicking off a full night of racing action. The Tri Track Open Modified Series will run heats, two consi races, and the 100-lap feature that will conclude the night. The 350 SMAC Supermodifieds and the NEMA Lites will also join the show. General admission grandstand tickets are $30 for adults, with children 6-12 years old set at $10. Any kids five and under can enter the grandstands for free. RIVERHEAD, N.Y. -- Justin Bonsignore rallied from some mid-race trouble to capture a solid third-place finish in Sunday’s NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Buzz Chew Chevrolet Cadillac 200 at Riverhead Raceway. The race, postponed one day due to weather, started well for the Holtsville, New York, native. Bonsignore won his 17th career Mayhew Tools pole in qualifying on Saturday -- which was also his third of the year -- and paced the first 49 laps of the race out front. After losing the top spot, Bonsignore settled inside the top-five and began preparing to save his equipment for a run at the finish -- however, slight contact forced Bonsignore to mistakenly hit the kill switch inside the car, shutting the No. 51 Phoenix Communications Modified off briefly, and pushing him outside the top-10. The remainder of the race was spent navigating through traffic and working back into the top-five en route to the third-place finish. Bonsignore remains three points behind Patrick Emerling in the championship standings leaving his home track. “It’s tough here now with the spray (on the track), you have to muscle our way to the top,” he said. “It’s not the same track we were winning at for a while. We have to do our homework a little bit and see if when we get back here in September we can get a little better.” The finish was Bonsignore’s 12th consecutive top-five finish at Riverhead -- a span that includes seven wins. Justin Bonsignore returns to the track on Wednesday, June 30, with the Tri Track Open Modified Series at Seekonk Speedway. The next Whelen Modified Tour race on the schedule is Saturday, July 17, at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. HOLTSVILLE, N.Y. -- After finishing third the last time the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour visited his home track, Justin Bonsignore will look to begin a new winning streak at Riverhead Raceway this Saturday, June 19. Set for competition in the Buzz Chew Chevrolet Cadillac 200, Bonsignore will drive the No. 51 Phoenix Communications for Kenneth Massa Motorsports in search of his ninth career win at the New York oval. Bonsignore had won four straight tour races at the bullring leading into the May 15 event -- but six-time tour champion Doug Coby broke his own dry spell and won the Miller Lite 200, while Bonsignore led 175 laps and finished third. Since that race, Bonsignore picked up a victory at Jennerstown Speedway and a fourth-place finish at Oswego Speedway -- and sits second -- just three points back -- in the Whelen Modified Tour championship battle. Bonsignore has plenty of confidence that the team will come up with the setup it will take to start a new streak. The 200-lap feature will be the sixth of 14 races on the tour schedule -- and the second of three at Riverhead. “I’m excited that Riverhead has an additional race this year, we always love racing at home in front of friends and family,” Bonsignore said. “We came up short there last month, but I’m really hungry to improve on the final segment of the race and make sure we have the car to last the distance and get the win. We learned what was wrong the last time, but so did everyone else in the field. Going back for the second time, it gets harder. We’re building a notebook just like everyone else -- and I’m sure it will be a challenge -- but we will improve.” Bonsignore’s eight career Riverhead wins in 19 starts include 951 laps led and an average finish of 4.8. Saturday’s race day includes one practice session from 3-4 p.m., with Mayhew Tools pole qualifying set to roll at 6 p.m. The Buzz Chew Chevrolet Cadillac 200 is scheduled to take the green flag at 8 p.m., and will air live on NBC Sports Gold. OSWEGO, N.Y. -- A tough qualifying effort didn’t slow Justin Bonsignore and the Kenneth Massa Motorsports team down on Saturday night, June 12, at Oswego Speedway. Bonsignore charged through the field into the top-five and left the Steel Palace 150 with a solid fourth-place finish behind the wheel of the Phoenix Communications No. 51. The only caution of the race flew just before halfway and the team went to work once again and gained Bonsignore crucial spots on pit road to get him closer to the front en route to a solid finish. “We just missed it a little bit in qualifying being a little bit too tight, but late in the first run of the race, we had a really good car and the caution came out and the pit crew did their job again and got us a bunch of spots,” Bonsignore said. “We were a little bit too tight at the end of the race and it’s a really tough place to pass, but overall, it was a really good day considering we didn’t have the best car and we were able to come away with a top-five finish.” Following the fifth race of the season, five different drivers have been to Victory Lane in tour competition. Bonsignore will look to become the first two-time winner of the season next time on the track, and will also look to gain points on leader Patrick Emerling. Bonsignore sits just three points back of the lead in his quest for his third Whelen Modfiied Tour championship. Bonsignore will return to the track for round six of the Whelen Modified Tour season next Saturday, June 19, at his home track, Riverhead Raceway. HOLTSVILLE, N.Y. -- Justin Bonsignore’s quest for a third NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour championship rolls on this Saturday, June 12, when the Holtsville, New York, native stays inside his home state and visits Oswego Speedway for the Steel Palace 150. Entering the fifth race of the Whelen Modified Tour season, Bonsignore sits second, one point back of Patrick Emerling in the championship standings. Bonsignore is also the most recent series winner -- driving the No. 51 Phoenix Communications Modified into Victory Lane at Jennerstown Speedway on Memorial Day weekend for his first win of the year. If past results are any indication, Bonsignore should have a Kenneth Massa Motorsports machine that will be able to contend for the win at the .625-mile track. In four appearances at Oswego, Bonsignore has finished third, sixth, second, and first. Bonsignore won the most recent tour stop at the track in 2019 -- as the Whelen Modified Tour did not visit Oswego last year due to COVID-19. “Definitely really excited to go back to Oswego Speedway after not racing there last year,” Bonsignore said. “I love going there… We love going there as a team. With all of the history at the track, and our victory there a few years ago… we are confident that we will be strong, and in contention. It’s a tough track. You have to hit your marks every single lap to be comfortable.” The race begins a busy month of June for Bonsignore -- which will include two NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour races (Oswego and Riverhead Raceway) and one Tri Track Open Modified Series event (Seekonk Speedway). Saturday’s NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour race day schedule includes practice from 3-4 p.m., with Mayhew Tools pole qualifying set to go green at 6 p.m. The green flag for the Steel Palace 150 will drop at 7:30 p.m., and the race will air live on TrackPass via NBC Sports Gold. Advance grandstand tickets are available through JDVProductions.com and will also be available at the track.
